Doell Takes Fast Feature, M. McDonald and Alcock Claim Season Opener Wins
Overnight rain and darkened skies did not faze the action at Lake of the Woods Speedway as racing returned to the track for a new season of stock car racing.
First up were the Q104 Limited Stocks (Formally Pure Stocks) which had one heat. It was an incredible battle for much of the 10 laps as Michael Copp and Jesse Pederson battled it out side by side for much of the race. But coming to the last couple laps, Pederson had smoke coming out the car and was forced to concede the win to Copp.
In the feature, it was an incredible side by side by side battle as Michael Copp led early as both Logan and Morgan McDonald fought with him. Eventually, Morgan went to the high side and was able to get by for the lead. Not long after, Logan was then battling on the bottom. Back and forth they went until Copp was shuffled out and Morgan barely held off his brother to take the season opener feature win.
In the Riverview Industries WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Stan Dueck and Tyler Doell were flying around the track side by side for almost the entire heat. After a caution, they battled out some more, with Dueck claiming the win.
In the second heat, Nick Audette was able to take the early lead and pull away from the field to claim his win. Patrick Davis got second and Keelan Hall rounded out third.
The feature had Audette leading for a majority of laps but Tyler Doell was all over it. Diving into the corners hard with multiple approaches, he was able to scoop the lead from Audette on the backstretch. He eventually pulled away. The rest of the field had a ton of racing going on. Hall was challenging for the third spot running the high line, but ran into mechanical issues with just a couple laps left. Congratulations to Tyler Doell for winning the season opener.
In the HD Contracting Ent. 4-Cylinders, Wanda Marshall took the lead in heat one at the start and while became challenged toward the end of the race, claimed the win. In the second heat, Kamea Mulholland had a sizeable lead for much of the race, with Dustin Alcock reeling her in. However, Alcock ran out of laps, giving Mulholland the win in heat two.
In the feature, it was a dominated race by Alcock, who became the first HD Contracting Enterprises 4-Cylinder driver to win more than one season opener (and back-to-back). Kamea eventually got around Marshall for second and Marshall was able to round out third after a close battle with Madoc.
Racing resumes on Sunday, June 22! Hot Laps at 4pm and Racing at 4:30pm!
