Smith Wins Back to Back Stay in Kenora 100, Rogers claims Twin Shootout

The 3rd Annual Stay in Kenora 100 and Twin Shootout was one for the record books as over 300 people attended the biggest turn out of participants the event has hosted so far.

17 Single Cylinder Enduro and 10 Twin Cylinders from a variety of manufacturers between 1970 and 1990, took the stage for some great racing.

First up were the Heats for the Twin Shootout. In heat #1, Lorne Dubois (377cc Citation) started on inside position and took the hole shot not looking back even with some challenge from the #007 of Davy Doer (377cc Citation). In heat #2, Jonny Neniska (Moto-Ski Mirage) took the hole shot and the early lead. But Patrick Gagnon, in a 1980 SS Citation, crawled his way up and took the lead with two to go and claimed the win.

In the feature, it looked as though the #55 of Lorne Dubois had the win secured as he dominated early on. However, Davy Doer and Don Rogers (Mercury 340 Trail-Twister) slowly gained in the second half of the race. With two to go, the drivers went three wide for the lead. It was Rogers to get the better of the other two with the win. Gagnon finished fourth and Neniska, fifth.

After a 10 min grooming break, the field of Enduro sleds came onto the track. The vintage sleds started the race four wide with Davy Doer, Mike Olson, Marc Bechard, Curtis Nicolychuk starting on the front row.

First time entry, Stacey Rea (250cc Citation), was the first to retire early as her engine was on the verge of exploding after just one lap. For the next 28 laps, it was a battle of the Enticers, as last year's winner Dylan Smith and Davy Doer battled for the top spot through the first quarter of the race. However, on lap 29, Doer's snowmachine stalled to a stop bringing out a caution. After the green flag waved again, Doer returned to the track, only to have it stall out twice more, forcing him to withdraw on lap 29.

Mike Olson (277cc Citation), who finished 2nd last year, had to abandon his sled on the inside of turn one at lap 9 after the fuel pump line pulled out.

Rob Jones, (250cc Elan) left his sled behind on lap 32 as it ran out of power. Ten laps later, Marc Bechard (292cc Yamaha) had carburetor issues and bowed out on lap 42. Smith (250cc Enticer) continued to lead throughout the race with Don Rogers (250cc Enticer) in second and Christopher Leek in third (277cc Citation). It wasn't until the last ten lead laps when the next sled expired. Travis MacDonald in the 1971 Ski-roule broke a drive chain while charging up the field.

Smith would go on to win his second straight Stay in Kenora 100 with Rogers and Leek taking second and third respectively.

A huge thank you to all the fans, participants, crews, volunteers, and sponsors for their amazing support and enthusiasm for this event that gets bigger every year!

Thank you to Kenora Hospitality Alliance for title sponsoring the Enduro and to all our giveaway sponsors (Neniska Repair, A&W, Kenora Honda, NAPA, Natural Solutions, CJ Edwards)

See you next year for the 4th Annual Stay in Kenora 100, Twin Cylinder Shootout and the possibility of something NEW!
