2023 Season Preview: #17 Kamea Mulholland - 4-Cylinders

2023 Lake of the Woods Speedway Season Preview

#17
Kamea Mulholland
4-Cylinders
Hometown: Winnipeg, MB

It wasn’t that long ago when Kamea Mulholland was just trying to get seat time, running around the bottom of the track, barely making minimum speed. Fast forward just three years, and Mulholland has three wins (2 at LOTW and 1 at VLS) and has finished second in points at both tracks in 2022.

Her first event was at a practice at Lake of the Woods Speedway in 2018, and her first racing event here was on September 9, 2018, where she finished last in both heat and feature.

You would think that a lightbulb just went off, as one day everyone had thought her father, Jim, was in the car during a race in 2021. Even he was surprised what had happened. Ever since then, Kamea has been fighting in the top 3 almost every week.

Her sponsors include – VRPatel Health Services Inc., B Tech Corporation, Reeset Truck & Trailer Service Ltd., Tumey Transport Inc. and Winnipeg Central Fleet Care CO.

The pit crew include her Dad, Mike Wenham, Her Grandpa (Jim Benzie), her Poppa (Jack), her Mom (Tara)

“I grew up at the race track and have always known I was going to race. So, when I was 14, I did just that.”

One of her racing stories involved a bear.

“We were camping and there was a bear rummaging around our area, so Dad fired up the car and scared the bear away. We never saw it again that night. We pulled into Kenora the next day, but the car wasn’t able to start.”

As for her plans for 2023, “Get as much seat time as I can, at as many tracks that I can get to!”

Promoter’s Thoughts – “Kamea fought for the lead in almost every race in 2022, a huge shift from just a couple years ago. I expect to see more of that fight for first again in 2023. The way she dominated the season finale last year could bode well for her in the coming season.”

Time to set the pace, Kamea!
